When times get tough: you get injured, sick, lose your job/ a loved one or too many things are going wrong and out of control, that is when you need to double down. Not just in training but in your commitment to yourself - to have a good life.
You have to be willing to earn it and not just once but every new stage - this one, the next, and the next. Lifting just happens to be an excellent way to give yourself mental, emotional and physical strength, perspective, time to think (or not think), and a controlled struggle that makes you better. When you have a long term progressive training plan and go through the patterns of working and achieving and yes still failing, you build yourself into a better person with the habits and attitudes you need to survive. And I chose that word carefully - survive. Because anything less than finding ways to be great is just joining the ranks of the walking dead.
