Why Men of Action are Better

But there is another thing that makes a person with passion so damn awesome: They tend to stay the hell out of your business. This is because they are too damn busy to gossip, to force their shit down your throat. Their ego isn't so big that they claim to know what to do with your money, your time, your beliefs. Hell, there are actually adults out there telling OTHER ADULTS what words they can or cannot say. The ego on people these days. Unbelievable.

Advice to Football Players

Advice to Football Players

"Read a book and go to class. You don't need to be a genius to do both of these things. People get VERY upset when you have interest outside of what they peg you to be. It makes them uncomfortable because they usually suck at everything. This is good. Make them upset by being better."

The Walk-On

The Walk-On

College football has started and while the superstars get all the glory and press, there are a group of players that have to struggle to not just get on the field, but to earn the respect of others and prove to themselves that they have what it takes to play the game.  These are the walk-on football players; hidden from the media but still a large part of the success of any football team.  Here is my story.

5/3/1 for Beginners

Now if you're a beginner and are working out without any guidance whatsoever, it's probably best to just stick with the basic program. One of the worst things a young lifter can do is take advice from other beginners on message boards –  they usually have all the advice and none of the experience.

N.O.V. Challenge - The Widowmaker

N.O.V. Challenge - The Widowmaker

This challenge was originally named after the sophomore effort from the band, Dragged into Sunlight. It is also a horrible heart attack that is complete closure of the left anterior descending coronary artery. Since I know only how to break hearts, not stop them, I have no idea what that is. But it sucks. Finally, I realized that the last sets of squats in Dante Trudell’s DogCrapp program is called The Widowmaker. Each one is appropriate for this challenge.

5/3/1 and a 10K

Hey Jim, first off I wanted to say thank you for writing the 5/3/1 program. I love it, it keeps me grounded and I am making great gains from it. So much so that I wanted to share them with you. You don't hear a lot about conditioning goals being reached on here so I thought you might appreciate this.

N.O.V. Movie Hall of Fame - Chinatown

Chinatown simply rules. This is because film noir rules. To quote Juliet Wendler - "This is when men were men." This 1974 classic revolves around the water crisis in Los Angeles in the late 30's. Jack Nicholson stars as J.J. Gittes, a private detective that gets wrapped up in political corruption, sex and murder. This is a long movie and one that requires several sittings to really appreciate. Also, notice that the POV is always of Gittes - what he sees and knows, you do too.
